On Wednesday, May 15th, the time has finally come, the long-awaited auction of the Goede Doelencommissie will take place from 17:00h to 19:00h in the FooBar (Niels Bohrweg 1)! During this special evening, various committees, disputes and the board will auction items to raise money for our charity 'De Walnoot'. As a guest at this auction, you can bid on the presented items and who knows, you might go home with a beautiful item! Come along to support a good cause and enjoy an evening full of fun and drinks. It is with great pleasure that the GoeDoeCie and SpoEd announce the "Aesculapius" sports day. Dear Members,

On May 1st from 13:00h to 14:00h Marinda van de Kreeke will give an interesting lunch lecture trying to answer the question of whether we can predict changed enzyme activity during inflammation with CYP phenotyping studies. Many drugs are metabolized in the liver by cytochrome P450 (CYP) enzymes. The activity of these enzymes may change due to drug-drug interactions or diseases or other physiological changes, like inflammation, pregnancy, or obesity. Changed enzyme activity could lead to undesired drug concentrations, both too high or too low. CYP phenotyping studies are designed to determine in vivo CYP enzyme activity in various conditions, by measuring under various conditions how quickly a drug disappears and/or the metabolite appears after administration of a drug that is mainly metabolized by a specific isoenzyme. However, the implicit assumption that is made, is that changes in metabolic clearance of the drug are the sole result of changes in the CYP enzyme activity, while during disease other variables that impact metabolic clearance may changes as well. In this lunch lecture, Marinda will show, with a model-based approach, how suitable commonly drugs and the applied methodologies in phenotyping studies are to establish in vivo enzyme activity.
